Over the last decade and more, Nene Park Trust has established a reputation for delivering high quality outdoor learning from our base in Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. Every year, over 6,000 students from across the region visit the Park to take part in activities including outdoor adventure activities, forest school and curriculum linked outdoor learning.
This year, Nene Park Trust will be taking the next step in developing our outdoor learning service by beginning to offer a range of onsite training courses and CPD to support teachers and education professionals in making outdoor learning an integral part of their curriculum.
Our new training courses will be delivered by Nene Park Trust Education and Activities Manager, Anna Thompson. Anna says: “We all know the benefits of spending time outdoors, and countless studies have also demonstrated the positive impacts outdoor learning can have on students’ attainment and wellbeing. We love welcoming students and teachers to Nene Park, but recognise that for outdoor learning to have the biggest impact, it must become integrated into a schools regular curriculum. That is why we are so excited to be able to support teachers in developing the skills they need to incorporate outdoor learning into their everyday teaching.”
Nene Park’s new suite of RQF regulated courses in forest school and outdoor learning will be delivered in association with Cambium Sustainable, one of the first forest school training organisations established in the UK, with the largest network of accredited trainers.
The first of the new courses to be available at Nene Park will be the Level 3 Certificate in Leading Forest School, starting on 20 September. An essential course for anyone who would like to set up and run a forest school in their own setting.
The course involves eight days of face-to-face training onsite at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough, including theory and practical sessions in our dedicated forest school site. Participants will receive ongoing support to complete the qualification, including access to the Cambium online support library of resources.
