Peterborough Celebrates Festival is back at Ferry Meadows for 2023 (19-21 May) and you are invited to get involved in the run up to the event by making flowers that will create a vibrant celebratory ‘Field of Colour’.
Nene Park Trust is inviting schools, local groups and individuals to get involved in creating and decorating flowers using recycled plastic bottles. These are easy to make but will look amazing as a huge colourful installation on Coney Meadow next to the main festival site at Ferry Meadows. To make a big impact, each school or group will create flowers of one colour linked to a wellbeing theme, or their school colours. Each coloured section of the display will be labelled with the school’s name and logo so that children can bring their families along to see the display, take some colourful photos and join in the Festival fun.

Interested schools and groups are invited to contact the events team to find out which colour flowers they should make. Other individuals are welcome to go ahead and get creating straight away. Finished flowers can be brought into the Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre and these willbe assembled by the events team in the lead up to the festival.
The events team are also holding two free public workshops at Ferry Meadows during the Easter holidays so keen participants can come along and make a flower. The workshops are on Saturday 15th April (in the Lynch Lake Community Hub) and Sunday 16th April (in the Discovery Den) 9am-3.30pm. No need to book, everyone is welcome – just come along.
Louise Thirlwall, Project Officer (Arts) at Nene Park Trust says about the project, “We want to create a positive splash of colour in the Park, filling the meadow with a display flowers that represents how colour and nature can support our wellbeing”.
“We have had a great response from schools and groups so far, and there is opportunity for more people to join in and contribute their own flowers through our workshops and over the Festival weekend”.
“Using recycled plastic means everyone can get involved, but it also gets us thinking about how many products come in plastic, how much plastic we use every day – and how important it is to care for the nature and the environment”
